Definition
Supplier Information Management (SIM) is enterprise software that centralises supplier records, governs how supplier data is collected and maintained, and supports oversight across onboarding, compliance, risk and reporting.
A SIM platform is the system of record for supplier information. It makes sure supplier data is accurate and auditable before it reaches the systems that spend money.
Why it exists
Supplier information sits underneath procurement, finance, compliance and risk. In most organisations it is scattered — some in the ERP, some in an onboarding portal, some in a compliance tool, a lot in spreadsheets and shared drives.
Nobody owns the whole picture, so nobody can answer basic questions about it. SIM exists to make supplier information something that is maintained over the supplier's life rather than typed in once and abandoned.
